My work has been a mix of media throughout my 30+ year career as a working artist. Starting as an apprentice under the tutelage of Al Chalmers Beck, at Chalmers Stained Glass in Jupiter, Florida, for 3 years, I eventually opened and operated my own custom stained glass studio, The Crystal Lady Inc., focusing on residential, commercial and ecclesial commissions for over 18 years. Through the years I began to change from conservative glass work to three dimensional art glass and more sculptural creations. I also developed my own custom jewelry designs made from semi-precious stones and metals. After selling my custom stained glass business, I went back to school and began painting. My works as a painter were very successful, however, I missed working in three dimensions, so I began exploring other concentrations and possibilities, discovered clay and began incorporating that material into my work.
Being a self-supporting working artist all my life, I felt I could change my work from decorative to concept-based beliefs. Communicating through the ‘eyes of art’ carries a universal language that all the world can recognize, and with my experience as a working artist it would help me continue on a new path.
I went on to acquire an Associate in Arts (AA), Associates in Fine Arts (AFA), and a Bachelors in Fine Arts (BFA), with a concentration in ceramics. Being mostly self taught, I felt it was important to ‘do the study’ and add it to my real-world experiences.
I continue to work in mixed media but now from a conceptual point of view. My ideas and forms are influenced by how we as humans interact with Nature. All the choices we make affect everything and everyone around us. My work helps to remind us of the choices and responsibilities we must consider.
