Lee Hood
Painter of spiritual, military, portraits and urban themes.
Lee Hood grew up in Eastern North Carolina off the Pamlico Sound. In several series, Hood focuses his painting within spiritual, military, portraits and urban themes. From an early age, Hood took art classes and then started career in the army. He created military artwork for commissions since in the early 1980's such as Force of Choice painting for the Military Police. Through opportunities in the military, took art lessons from Dr. Alexander at Central Texas College in 1990's.
While living in California, Hood began painting en plain air on the piers off the Pacific Ocean setting up his easel and paints while chatting with tourists. After the earthquake in Haiti in 2010, Hood documented the aftermath with scenes of the marketplace and civilians as the environment had changed their welfare tremendously. Hood returned to downtown New Bern and began en plain paintings of the streetscapes documenting the architecture. Hood often participates during local art events throughout New Bern such as ARTcrawl, Mumfest and Bohemian Artists of New Bern. Hood has exhibited with Greater Good Gallery, Next Chapter Bookstore, MJ's Raw Bar and the New Bern Library.
